After nearly 3 years of work, experimentation, research, and equipment purchases, we are finally able to announce that we now make our own flexplates! I'm immensely pleased to annouce that as of RMRRF2026, where we debuted them, our flexplates, called the FireThorns are now available.
They are coated with our own formulation of textured PEI. They are a satin type finish, or the equivalent of 220 grit sandpaper. To date, we have tested them with PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, Nylon, PP, PPA, PPS and various CF blends. Best part is that so far, we haven't had to use a DROP of bed glue. And to top it off, the FireThorn's perform like a cold plate. We have done PLA on them as low as 25C when making maker coins for RMRRF. Nylon at 70C.
If you are looking for a new flex plate, please consider checking out the FireThorn's with our own ThornGrip PEI blend. You can custom order whatever sized plate you want. (lead time is approximately 1-2 weeks for custom flex plates with the ThornGrip surface.)
We are currently limited to 470mm x 1200mm, but will soon be able to offer up to 600mm x 1200mm. If you want to use some other sort of print surface, we also will custom make any size of raw metal flex plate. The metal is 0.65mm thick, and with the ThornGrip surface applied, they are approximately 0.85mm thick. We also intend to offer smooth PEI stick on surfaces.
